Singer/songwriter/guitarist Steve Postell – who is best known for his work with the Immediate Family, David Crosby Band, and Our House – will be releasing a new studio album on March 14, 2025, via Quarto Valley Records, ‘Walking Through These Blues’. The following day, a record release party will be held at McCabe’s in Santa Monica, with an all-star band backing him up, and a springtime tour to follow with OUR HOUSE: The Music of CSNY).
Issued on CD and digitally, ‘Walking Through These Blues’ features 12 tracks of inspired Americana rock n’ roll, which sees Postell joined by a cast of extremely talented musicians who happen to also be friends: Glen Phillips, Leland Sklar, Danny Kortchmar, Steve Ferrone, Bekka Bramlett, Russ Kunkel, and the late David Crosby, among many other contributors.
And it turns out that one of the album’s standout tracks features Phillips on vocals, “How Far We’ve Come,” which Postell described as:
“Glen Phillips is the lead singer and primary writer for the alternative band, Toad the Wet Sprocket. We got together for a songwriting session and came up with ‘How Far We’ve Come’, a song looking at the reality that despite how much progress we as a culture have made, how much more we could do going forward. The song has a very Americana feel to me, so I got Tom Petty’s Heartbreaker bandmate Steve Ferrone to play drums on the track, along with my Immediate Family bandmate Leland Sklar on bass, for an iconic rhythm section.”
When speaking about the title track, Steve stated:
“[‘Walking Through These Blues’] originated from a right-hand guitar exercise that I was showing a student. Lyrically, it’s a reminder to keep going forward in life even when things are challenging. For the recording, I was able to grab Jackson Browne band members Bob Glaub and the late Jeff Young when they were on a tour break. Iain Matthews (Fairport Convention, Matthews Southern Comfort) was in town playing with me on a duo tour and he sang background vocals on this track.”
In the tradition of artists like Tom Petty and Jackson Browne, Steve brings musicianship and integrity to the craft of storytelling through song. The rich arrangements performed by some of the best musicians in the world bring Steve’s lyrical songs to life in a time honored tradition. Steve’s journey has taken him from a music conservatory to Broadway shows, to composing music for film, television and ballet, to rock tours and years as a studio musician. But his first passion has always been songwriting and he is thrilled to be introducing his latest offering, ‘Walking Through These Blues.’
“When I make a new record, I am not trying to re-invent the wheel,” Postell explains. “I try to stay true to the traditions that inspired me, creating honest, real music, telling real stories, played by real musicians.” And this goal was certainly obtained with the exceptional ‘Walking Through These Blues.’
